We have started our functions unit and after this week you should have a strong understanding of piece-wise functions. You completed a packet that included word problems graphs and equations that also brought back domain and range and included some new vocabulary also some problems from past units to help you not forget some important concepts
I'm giving you some extra time to work through your packets due Monday. For those of you that are done, I appreciate your ability to time manage to reach a goal. These skills will follow you throughout life.
We have been working through the packet together in class this week. It is due Monday. We have been focusing on being able to write down the equation of a quadratic just from looking at certain aspects of the graph.
Week of 3/7
Try to get through page 48 of the packet. We will continue to go over it Monday and finish it up on Tuesday the 15th
You were given a new packet that incorporates some things that we have learned in the past. Don't forget how to draw on past knowledge because that is key to being successful in math. This packet will be due 3/7 or sooner depending on how you spend your time I give you in class to work on it. Keep practicing and watching videos on youtube of completing the square, vertex form from a graph and memorize the quadratic formula.
Ok we have finally started to talk about completing the square as a way to solve quadratic equations and also looked at one of the steps (vertex form) and how it shows us where the vertex point will lie. We have continued working with tables to see if we are dealing with quadratics and how quadratic functions are different from exponential functions.

We have looked at quadratics in the form of a table and how to tell if you are dealing with a quadratic from that table. We also looped the ideas and techniques of writing explicit and recursive equations from tables and practiced factoring with the ac grouping method. There are hundreds of videos on youtube on how to use the grouping method to factor quadratics.
We should be feeling good about factoring quadratics when a=1. This week we looked at quadratics when a>1 and how to use the ac grouping method of factorizing. Remember how to find the x value for the vertex point, the difference between zeros and factors and how they relate. HW due Monday is the grouping method worksheet
We had a final this week that could only help your grade, not hurt it, however it will still be a summative grade for this next semester since I noticed that many (not all) of the class seemed to simply discount it and viewed it as being unimportant even after I asked you to try your best.
This week we continued with the Quadratics unit and discovered that a quadratic equation is just two linear equations multiplied together, and that the factors of a quadratic are directly related to where the function crosses the x-axis (ZEROS).
